Hatch Baby, a renowned brand known for its innovative child products, recently issued an extensive recall of around 919,000 power adapters linked with their Rest 1st Generation Sound Machines. The recall follows potential shock hazards that could arise from the use of these adapters.
The issue was first brought to light when the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported receiving twelve complaints associated with the adapters’ exposure to electrical shock. Astonishingly, there were no confirmed injuries from the reported incidents which instigated the recall.
The Rest 1st Generation Sound Machines, where these recalled power adapters are used, are multifunctional nursery devices designed to aid babies in their nap time, and have a built-in night light and time-to-rise alerts for toddlers. The units are controlled and customizable via our app, so parents can choose their preferred settings remotely.
The faulty power adapters were included in sets with a Rest Device and were also sold separately. Impacted units would bear one of these affected models: HBREST, HBREST3, HBREST4, and 5BB5001. The model numbers are typically inscribed at the lower part of the machine. Consumers are cautioned that only those adapters with the mark Top-Unplug to disconnect are the subject of the recall.
The Hazardous adapters were sold between September 2016 and March 2022, both in physical stores and online platforms like Amazon and Hatch Baby websites. Approximately 824,000 units were sold in the United States, with around 95,000 units in Canada and the remainder distributed in Australia.
Despite the extensive number of units subject to recall, Hatch Baby has acted swiftly, prioritizing customer safety above everything else. The company is urging consumers who’ve purchased these powered adapters to stop using them immediately to eliminate the risk of an electrical shock.
In line with this urgent recall, consumers are guided to contact Hatch Baby for a free replacement adapter. The company has initiated proactive measures to cross this hurdle, quickly responding by providing necessary replacements and support for affected consumers.
Furthermore, the company anticipates that this recall won’t damage its reputation but rather strengthen the trust customers have because of its swift and comprehensive response. It has established a direct hotline (833) 322-7687 from 6 AM to 6 PM PT Monday through Friday for customer inquiries or visit the company’s website and click on ‘Support’ then ‘Contact Us.’
Though this recall serves as a bump in the road, Hatch Baby’s prompt resolution shows a persistent commitment towards maintaining safety standards. The company continues to touch base with consumers and ensuring their comfort and safety in the product’s usage, maintaining that customer safety remains its utmost concern. It sets an example for other brands to handle recalls professionally, prioritizing customer safety first before any other considerations.
